Episode 03: Randa Jarrar

 

In this episode, we catch up with award-winning author Randa Jarrar! She joins us for the third episode of the Seen Jeem podcast to discuss her unapologetically defiant book, Love is an Ex-Country, (2021), with the Arab American National Museum's Research and Content Manager Matthew Jaber Stiffler. Randa also talks about finding community as an Arab American writer and even shares some details of her budding film career.


Randa Jarrar is a writer, memoirist, and comedian sharing her experience as a Muslim American born of Egyptian and Palestinian parents. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Bitch, Buzzfeed, The Utne Reader, Salon, and many other venues. Her first book, the Arab American coming of age novel, A Map of Home, has been published in seven languages and won a Hopwood Award and an Arab American Book Award. Her book, Him, Me, Muhammad Ali, won an American Book Award, a PEN Oakland Award, and a Story Prize Spotlight Award. Her most recent book is called Love Is An Ex-Country, a memoir on how she claims joy in a hostile America.
