Episode 12: Mohja Kahf

 

Mohja Kahf discusses two of her books of poetry with Sally Howell. Hagar Poems was released in 2016 and My Lover Feeds Me Grapefruit came out in 2020.

She also reads several poems for us: “More than One Way to Break a Fast,” “Ramadan Godsend,” and “Wet Chastity.”



About Mohja Kahf:

Mohja Kahf, professor of comparative literature and Middle Eastern studies at the University of Arkansas since 1995, is author of a novel, The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf, about a Syrian immigrant family in 1970s Indianapolis, and five other books. Her writing has been translated to Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Urdu, Japanese, Italian, German, and French. 

Winner of a Pushcart Prize and an Arkansas Arts Council Individual Artist award, Kahf is a founding member of the Radius of Arab American Writers, served on the board of the Ozark Poets and Writers Collective in Fayetteville, Arkansas and is a member of the Syrian Nonviolence Movement (الحراك السلمي السوري), which was founded by protest organizers inside Syria.
